I try and eat right, eat
a lot of fish and poultry, have salad
a few nights a week, watch the intake
of carbs, and rarely indulge in junk/fast
food.
But it's still kind of hard
to justify the orgy of oil, cheese and
red meat that was my visit to Conti's,
which is tucked away on a shop-lined street.
Being a little starved for red meat, I
was glad to hear that one of the evening's
specials was a grilled steak.
But not just any grilled
steak. A Grilled 18 oz. Sirloin Stuffed
with Mushrooms, Peppers and Onions and
Topped with a Mushroom Cheese Sauce. Wha?!
After indulging in a ridiculously
over-the-top appetizer of Cheese-Topped
Garlic Bread (itself swimming in a decadent
cheese sauce), my sirloin arrived, hanging
over the platter and, as described, stuffed
and topped with everything that I loved.
I should be ashamed to admit
that I finished the whole thing. And that
I topped it off with a piece of Tiarmisu.
I should also be able to
tell you what everybody else at the table
had, but I went into such a meat frenzy
that I could barely remember my name that
night. Good wine list, too.
EPILOGUE: In May of 2006 I was informed that Conti's is no longer in business.
